Underwear: What’s your favorite style?

When it comes to the world of underwear, it’s definitely not a one style fits all. Nowadays, there’s more styles than ever before! Below we’ll map out the different cuts and styles so you can find the perfect one for you.

Briefs

I’m sure you’ve worn a pair of briefs at some point in your life. They’re the classic style but some vary in rise and design. They cover just the right amount of front and back, allowing you to show off that leg! Briefs are perfect for guys that want support without the extra fabric going down the leg– and also perfect for guys that like to wear tight pants. Low rise like the Calvin’s picture are perfect to show off that V line, then you go to mid-rise, and high-rise, where the band sits right below the belly button.

Briefs are perfect for: Moderate Sports, Everyday, Dressing Up, Going Out.

Boxer Briefs

The boxer brief features the same construction as the traditional brief but will traditionally cover half of your thigh– although many boxer briefs now cover about 1/3 of your thigh for a more modern cut. Boxer briefs protect you from thigh chaffing during workout and sports and have about a mid-way rise. Check out our SAXX boxer briefs with a unique feature to hold your goods in just the right spot.

Boxer briefs are perfect for: Moderate Sports, Everyday, Working out.

Trunks

Are briefs too traditional and boxer briefs too long for you? Meet the trunk! An ever more popular style amongst mens underwear, the trunk cut is a hybrid of a brief and boxer brief without the long let– in other words, they’re boxer briefs with short legs and a square cut appearance. If you like briefs but want to try something a little different, you should try trunks!

Trunks are perfect for:  Everyday, Dressing Up, Going Out, Moderate Sports

Boxers

Ah, remember your high school days? If you’re getting a little bit nostalgic, we have the goods for you. The classic boxer is loose-fitting– with no support– allowing your junk to move around freely. Most boxers come with a fly allowing you to take out your magic stick at will without having to remove your boxers (easy access, anyone?) Boxers have come a long ways since your grandpa was wearing them. Check out our fun designs by Happy Socks.

Boxer briefs are perfect for: Everyday, Casual Sports, Sleeping.

Jock Strap

Jockstraps are all about covering your frontside, leaving your bum exposed. They typically lift up your package up and away from the body allowing you to stay cooler and dryer than traditional briefs. Cups can be inserted into some jockstraps for protection during rigorous activities like sparring and martial arts. Jockstraps come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, ranging from a simple strap on the back to a more structure support like pictures.

Jocks are perfect for:  Intense sports… among other things.

  1. The fascinating background of the jockstrap… We have to visit all the way back to the 1870s, and a Mr. Bennett of Chicago, who was simply plainly *very* troubled concerning the injury that cobbled streets did to street bike courier’s nuts. All of that out of control moving about kept him up through the night. Poor Mr. Bennett. However the good news is for the bike messengers (as well as ‘jockeys’), Mr. Bennett had an idea, and he named it after them. The ‘jock strap’ came into this world. Fast-forward five decades to the 1920s, and a youthful Canadian named Jack Cartlege. Jack loved his hockey *almost* just as much as he loved slipping on his most liked jock strap, but it wasn’t until one fateful day in 1927 that Jack realized (the hard way!) that his jock strap wasn’t any rivalry for any hockey puck inside the groin. Jack wasn’t massively willing on reproducing the experience, and who blames him, so he came out up with the ingenious idea of slipping a hard goblet down the top of his jock strap. The design was promptly trademarked and manufacturing begun. Gentlemen no longer had to live in the fear of a stray puck, ball or studded shoe. Jack’s pairing of jock strap and shielding cup had become the mainstay of boys’ highschool athletics kit throughout the world for the remainder of the twentieth century, till under garment makes such as Andrew Christian, C-in2 and Addicted commenced reinventing the classic design. Away went the unpleasant colour of off-white and the unattractive waistbands, and in came a fresh collection of innovative cuts and styles, and fun colors. These current jock straps are definitely the best balance between design and performance – as great around the track or in the gym because they are under a set of jeans, or suit trousers if you’re game for it. Business in the front, party in the back!
